*new album "American Me" due out in Spring 2009*
Site under construction
Chicago!! I'm coming home this month for Declare INDIEpendence2 on April 15th. Last year's show was a great success and I can't believe we're putting it on again less than a year later.
This time we've teamed up with the Foundation of Asian American Independent Media (FAAIM) and the 14th annual Chicago Asian American Showcase at the Gene Siskel Film Center. Declare INDIEpendence will help close out the film fest which runs from April 3-16th. It's gonna be a blast!
Thanks to everyone who came to the shows this month! Shout outs to Q at Formations and LiAnn at UCLA. With my LP album nearly finished, I hope the shows served as a little preview. Also, the music video for "Wake Up" is finished! Check back soon for its youtube release.
My first couple of shows in LA!
Thursday February 19 - 8pm - Ay Caramba Restaurant, 716 Traction Ave. Los Angeles (Little Tokyo) - $12 (suggested donation)
Wednesday February 25 - 8pm - UCLA, Tom Bradley International Hall - FREE
So it's been a long time since my last post. New Year, New Lunar Year, New President...and New Shows! Getting ready for 2 shows this month, my first shows here in LA, as well as finishing up a ton of projects. More details soon! In the meantime, check out a write up of my music on yellowbuzz.org, a new blog dedicated entirely to Asian American music. Thanks, Wendy.
Hey folks. It's been a while since my last posting. I've moved to LA! Been here almost a month now and am getting adjusted to the good weather and driving everywhere. I'm putting last minute touches on my album and can't wait to get it all ready for its release. My "Wake Up" music video that I shot in October is in post-production and I'm thinking it'll be ready for youtube by December. Everyone in Chi-town: I miss you guys, but I know I'll be back at some point, hopefully playing a show. In the meantime, check out my interview with UCLA's Asia Pacific Arts.
Fusing the grooves of Soul/R&B with socially conscious lyricism, Dawen explores the American dream. As a singer-songwriter, Dawen hopes his music will further the dialogue on racism and social injustice in American society.
Influences range from Erykah Badu and Bob Marley, to Charles Mingus and Mozart.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Dawen was classically trained as a vocalist and has been singing and playing piano since he was six years old. Dawen also plays guitar and the mbira dzavadzimu.
A recent transplant from Chicago, Dawen now resides in Los Angeles.
Winner of the Avant Grande Music Contest 2007 sponsored by Starbucks and WXRT 93 FM radio.
Dawen's EP debut Dawen Wang, is available now on iTunes and amazon.com.
